Laboratory for Geophysical Research of the Arctic and Continental Margins of the World Ocean

The Laboratory for Geophysical Research of the Arctic and Continental Margins of the World Ocean was established in 2018 under the Top 5-100 Competitiveness Enhancement Program implemented by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology together with Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IO RAS). The Head of the Laboratory is Leopold Lobkovsky, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The purpose of the research carried out in the laboratory is to study the seismotectonic evolution of the Arctic Region using geological and geophysical observations (including seismological) observations. Also, to study the degradation processes of the permafrost and associated emissions of bubble methane, to study geodynamic processes in subduction zones using space geodesy methods, and to develop theoretical and methodological foundations in the field of geoelectrics (electromagnetic geophysics)
