Researchers

There are over 100 researchers who choose conduct their scientific researches at MIPT.  Many of them are university’s alumni. Several years ago university also encouraged some prominent Russian researches who had previously left the country to return. Now they conduct researches in different fields of science, such as nanophotonics, aging, quantum technologies, cosmos exploration and etc.

Systems: Membrane proteins and proteins of signal amplification cascades; mechanisms for the transport of protons and signals across membranes; protein folding. 

Methods: X-ray, neutron and electron diffraction on 2D and 3D protein crystals, crystal structures of intermediate states in the working cycle of proteins; micro-spectroscopy on single crystals trapped in intermediate states (visible, infrared); inelastic neutron scattering on equilibrium fluctuations in proteins, single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy.

Professional experience
Head of Laboratory. Longtime staff member of the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Biophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow Oblast, Pushchino). Worked abroad since 2000 in a number of leading scientific research institutions in the USA and Japan (Florida State University, USA; University of North Texas Health Science Center, USA; Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, USA; George Washington University, USA; Kyoto University, Japan). Head of Laboratory at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (Kyoto University, Japan) since 2008.
Academic Interests
K. Agladze's main scientific works deal with the biophysics of excitable media, as well as the theoretical and the experimental substantiation of low-voltage defibrillation. K. Agladze's works were the first to employ Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction as a "chemical computer" and demonstrate the wave environment to be fitting for the purposes of image processing and optimization purposes. K. Agladze also heads the MIPT Nano-construction of Membrane Protein Complexes for Cellular Physiology Control Laboratory, which mainly specializes in cardiac tissue engineering research. One of the winners of the Russian Government's first Megagrant Tender in 2010. Author of more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature and Science.

Major scientific interests are in the field of nano-sized objects and their interaction with biological entities such as cells and living organisms, in particular, synthesis of inorganic particles, coating them with biopolymers, proteins and DNA; self-assembly of multifunctional superstructures via biomolecular interfaces; development of nanoparticle based smart materials; logic-gated and biocomputing structures; biomedical applications of biocompatible nanomaterials such as targeted drug delivery, cell sorting and labeling, hyperthermia of tumors; new label-free optical bio- and chemical sensors for advanced immunoassays; low-noise methods for detection of magnetic nanoparticles in vivo for investigation of nanoparticle behavior in experimental animals, i.e., their toxicity, biotransformation and biodegradation.
