MIPT becomes artificial intelligence research hub under nationwide program

The National Technology Initiative (NTI) is the Russian government’s program, aimed at ensuring the country’s competitiveness on the high-tech market of tomorrow. This program includes projects in a number of key areas of science and technology. In each of these areas, one institution, called the NTI research center, serves as a hub for innovation. Universities and research institutes compete to gain this status.

MIPT has been selected as the NTI research center for artificial intelligence. The center will operate within an MIPT-led consortium of top Russian universities and major companies. The center’s research will focus on a number of key areas, including conversational AI, neural networks, deep machine learning, robotics, computer vision, and computing systems for AI.

The purpose of NTI research centers is to ensure the global leadership of Russian companies by providing them with innovative solutions drawing on the research in the program’s priority technological fields. The centers are also tasked with developing education programs for training high-tech specialists.
