Master degree programmes in English

Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is one of the most prestigious institutions of education and research in the world. It trains highly qualified specialists in theoretical and applied physics, applied mathematics, informatics, biotechnology and related disciplines. 

MIPT was founded in 1951 by Nobel laureates: Pyotr Kapitsa, Nikolay Semyonov, Lev Landau and Sergey Khristianovich. 

From the beginning, MIPT has used an unique system of education, which commonly known as the “Phystech System”. The general principles of the system are rigorous selection of gifted and creative young individuals, extensive education in fundamentals, involvement of leading scientists in students' learning process, and using the best research laboratories in the country to teach in the atmosphere of scientific discovery and innovative engineering. 

There are Nobel laureates, founders of high-technology companies, inventors, engineers among the MIPT alumni. All MIPT students and alumni proudly call themselves “phystechs”. 

MIPT is also known as Phystech (informally).

There are ten international master’s degree programmes in MIPT. They can be devided into three group: 

Natural Sciences:
Physics of Radiation-Matter Interaction
Physics of Nanostructures
Beam Plasma Systems and Technologies
Planetary Science
Cellular and Molecular Biophysics

Materials Design

Computer science:
Advanced Combinatorics
Advanced Cybernetics
Neural Networks & Neural Computers

Each programme durate 2 years (4 semesters).
Degree Awarded: Master of Science.
ECTS credits: 120. 
Language of Instruction: English.

  • Early admissions deadline: May 15, 2015 
  • Regular admissions deadline: June 01, 2015
  • Reply deadline for early admissions students: July 01, 2015
  • Reply deadline for regular admissions students: July 15, 2015
List of documents:
  • Passport (scanned copy);
  • Diploma(s) and official academic transcript of records (scanned copy) (*only official transcripts can be submitted, if you were not awarded a degree);
  • Resume (include educational awards, results of academic competitions, scientific publications.);
  • Statement of Purpose;
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation;
  • Certificate of Language Proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL) (scanned copy) recommended level - B2.
All documents should be submitted in English or Russian to the Department of International Affairs by the email: programmes.eng@mail.ru
Conditions provided: 
  • Government full-tuition scholarship (early application recommended);
  • Standard Tuition fee: 190 000 RUR (per year).
  • 600 - 1300 RUR (per month).
  • Free for students applying for the full-tuition scholarship;
  • 7 000 RUR (per year).
