The laboratory for working with gifted children - a public institution for the preparation of school olympiads- is based at MIPT. It is involved in the organization of the All-Russian School Olympiads in physics and mathematics, as well as the selection and training of Russian teams for international olympiads in these subjects (IPhO, IMO, IJSO).
The laboratory began work as an MIPT department before 2004, but only received official status on October 1, 2009. In 2006, the laboratory was visited by the Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev.
The working staff includes MIPT professors, most of which are also jury members of the All-Russian School Olympiads in physics and mathematics.
